An AT Professional PA system was recently installed into the brand new Cafe 28 Cooly live music venue in Coolangatta. Cafe 28 Cooly is an intrinsic component of Boardriders Coolangatta – the first of Quiksilver’s “store and cafe” concept venues to be established in Australia.

About the Venue:

Boardriders Coolangatta, a flagship “store and cafe” concept developed by Quiksilver, has opened at The Strand in Coolangatta on Queensland’s Gold Coast. The 1000sqm store is the first of its kind in Australia and becomes the newest in a chain of “Boardrider” stores already established in places such as Bali and J-Bay. Boardriders Coolangatta is conveniently located close to the surfing beaches of Snapper Rocks and Kirra.

Cafe 28 Cooly is an integral part of the new concept store and offers an “all-day breakfast” inspired menu as well as a plentiful selection of artisan coffee, fresh juices and protein-based smoothies in a myriad of delicious flavour combinations. Cafe 28 Cooly is designed as a place you can sip on a coffee and watch the waves, get a fresh new ‘do from the onsite Uppercut barber, browse the latest hardware, or just chill out with mates over a cold beer and some live music.

Live music is the main attraction at Cafe 28 and having the right in-house setup was a crucial step taken during the design phase. Gold Coast based lighting firm Creative Productions in conjunction with AU Music Productions designed and supplied a complete audio solution for the space.

“If you can’t Rock’n’Roll, Don’t F@#kin’ Come.”

About the Audio:

A 10,000 Watt Front of House system was installed so as to give this small venue some serious live music volume. The system features a pair of AT Professional SS24A powered tops hung from the ceiling. Bass reinforcement is handled by a pair of AT Professional SB03A powered subs recessed into the front of the stage. Each speaker is internally processed – making the system very simple to operate and safe from tampering and misuse. A single AT Professional LG04A was installed within the retail area to pipe the live music through for the shoppers to enjoy.

On stage monitoring is handled by four AT Professional SCX24A powered 12in coaxial stage monitors which, owing to their multipurpose design, are also used for popup outdoor events.

Overall the system performs very well in the space and getting enough volume will never be an issue. The system is set to be the national standard for all future Boardriders stores opening across Australia.
